My local community boating project has recently bought a new boat. The South West Herts Narrowboat Project provides hire boats to community and youth groups.
The new, wheelchair accessible boat is called Pickle’s Folly, as the funds were bequested by the late Graham Pickett. She is currently en route from Starline Marine’s base in Stourport-on-Severn and headed south on the Grand Union Canal. The winter stoppage program has held her up at the bottom of the Marsworth flight and she is pictured here with a light dusting of snow. The crew are blogging the boat’s journey to their Kings Langley base here: Pickles Folly latest news.
The project’s other boat is a 12 berth narrowboat named Dick’s Folly. It is available for individuals and community groups to hire and can be used for just an evening, half a day, or extended cruises.
If you live in Hertfordshire the team always welcome new volunteers; and if you are a community group that would like to use one of the boats do get in touch.
