Earlier this month a dedicated team of friends hand-pulled a barge 127 miles along the canal from Liverpool to Leeds to raise funds for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
They were accompanied and supported by well-wishers, helpers, friends, family and local people. Practical help included opening locks and bridges, and donating food and drink. They were also supported and assisted by Joint Activities and Motor Education Service, who work with ‘at risk’ and ‘disengaged’ young people in the Bradford and Keighley district. JAMES is one of our NCBA member projects.
The barge-pull team hope to raise raise £10,000 to pay for a pilot research trial in life prolonging treatment, giving the most precious gift of all; time. There are plenty of pictures, a slideshow, movie clips and updates about the challenge on their Barge Pull Charity Event Facebook page
It’s just incredible what they have achieved: It’s an uplifting story of how teamwork and commitment can really make a difference. It’s still possible to visit the donation page at Virgin Money Giving
