We have about 1,165 staff based at more than 30 main locations around the UK coast. We are further supported by over 3,250 volunteer Auxiliary Coastguards. Our Headquarters are in Southampton, which is the home of our support functions and policy making teams, as well as some front line services for seafarers. Most of our operational work on ships and at the coast is carried out locally.

UN International Year of Freshwater
The UK activities for the UN International Year of Freshwater are
designed to raise awareness of freshwater issues. There are
competitions, surveys and polls and we want you to take part. Why not
help to protect your local freshwater site by adding it to the National
Collection of Freshwater Sites, or paint or write on the subject of
