National Community Boats Association

The National Community Boats Association or NCBA is a charity that provides support to Community Boating Organisations. Its does this primarily through training support but also by representing the interests of the member projects with the Canal and River Trust.  The NCBA administers systems to help promote the safe use of the inland waterways.  Its qualifications are recognised by the Canal and River Trust which allows Community Boating organisations to operate boats which carry up to 12 passengers.

A small selection of our member's details are shown below

Pamela May 2
Droitwich Waterways (Pamela May) Trust runs Pamela May 2 which was launched in May 2019, a 50’ narrowboat, electrically driven. She has a wheelchair lift and disable accessible toilet facilities. The trust’s aim is to promote the preservation of the Droitwich Canals, and to promote the enhancement of its environment by taking groups along these beautiful canals. Bookings are welcomed from Care, Residential, and Nursing Homes, Day Centres and Special Interest Group, Social groups and families.

The Chesterfield Canal Trust
The Trust (Registered Charity no. 1071376) is run entirely by volunteers. It runs a wide range of activities including a weekly Work Party, four tripboats, a promotional trailer, an ex-British Waterways working boat and the only Cuckoo boat, unique to our canal, in existence. It holds regular Festivals and social events. New volunteers are always welcome. Annual membership is inexpensive. Benefits include regular copies of the award-winning magazine Cuckoo and E-Newsletters.

The Pirate Castle
The Pirate Castle has been providing water based activities for youth and community groups since 1966 from our base on the Regent's Canal. Activities include canal boating with Black Pearl and our wheelchair accesible Pirate Prince. We also provide outdoor activities with canoeing, kayaking and paddle-boarding with holiday schemes taking place during the school holidays. We also have halls available for hire for regular and one -off bookings

Vale of Llangollen Canal Boat Trust
The Vale of Llangollen Canal Boat Trust is a registered charity set up in 1983 to raise money to build and operate a narrowboat to run day trips for disabled and disadvantaged groups of all ages. Lady Winifred is our new, specially designed and adapted, narrowboat launched on 30 June 2019. Our fully trained volunteers take out daytrips, 7 days a week, from April to October on the canals around the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (the 'stream in the sky') which is a World Heritage Site.

NCBA Training

Training is provided by NCBA projects know as Accredited Training Centres. The ATC has available to it one or more NCBA Trainers who can deliver the NCBA courses. Normally an ATC undertakes all its own training but will often run courses for external people. If you are not attached to a project and require training please contact an ATC in you area. These can be found on the Projects page.
